2024 Challenge

This year’s Challenge theme is “Container”.

Our definition of a container is “something that will hold something else”.  This means you have lots of options for your project.

Design Guidelines:

It would be nice if your entry included at least 1 bead, however, we want to include the full diversity of our group so use whatever medium or combination appeals to you. Your submission can be a single item or an ensemble group. An ensemble group is considered as one piece. Your submission can be jewelry, accessories, decorative object or wearable art. Submit an original design or a design from a pattern. Kits are inadmissible. If you use someone else’s pattern, be sure you give them credit for the design.  Please try to alter by challenging yourself to make this piece your own, however you interpret that.  Did you know that our LBS 25th anniversary is approaching?  Perhaps consider a design around that for fun!

Think of it as if you aren’t competing against anyone else.  Just have fun and learn something new. This is for everyone and it would be FABULOUS to have a submission from EVERY ONE of our members!

Submission Guidelines:

Only finished pieces may be accepted. Limited to 1 entry per member.  Use only the official Challenge Submission/Release Form.  Title your piece if inspired to do so, but it’s not mandatory. The Challenge Submission/Release Form is also available at the monthly membership meetings. If using a pattern, please be sure to acknowledge the designer on the Challenge Submission/Release Form.  The Release Form portion absolves LBS from any responsibility for loss or damage to the submitted piece(s).

Submit your piece in either a 9” x 12” envelope or a standard grocery paper bag along with the Challenge Submission/Release Form. Please do not use something that is see through. Also, do not put your name on anything except the Submission/Release Form. Participants must be an LBS member in good standing since at least June 1, 2024.  Either Becky P. or Liann G. will happily accept your submission and will enter your name on the registration list. Your submission will be accepted at a monthly meeting and the final deadline is the September 2024 monthly meeting. Sorry, no deadline exceptions.

Voting will be done at the October 2024 monthly meeting by the members in attendance. Votes will be tallied that evening and the official winners will be announced with tremendous fanfare!

First place is $140.00, Second place is $115.00, Third place is $90.00 and the Student Choice Award is $50.00. A Runner Up prize of $50.00 will be added if there are 12 or more participants.  The dollar amount of each prize is in the form of a gift certificate from your choice of several local bead stores.

If you attend the October meeting, your submission will be returned to you then. If not present, your submission will be returned to you at the November meeting. For all submissions, official winner or not, we would greatly enjoy hearing about your approach and adventure in creating at our November and December meetings!  Any questions can be directed to either Becky Prusak at: Rprusak9617@gmail.com or Liann Gale at Liann.gale@icloud.com.

If you would like your Challenge entry displayed at the New Berlin Library during the month of November, please include a completed Bulletin Board Release Form with your entry.

The original idea for this year’s challenge was kindly shared by the Kansas City Bead Society. Our thanks for their willingness to share with us.  We hope to collaborate with them in the future.
