UWM Program with Yevgeniya Kaganovich

For the first time, LBS is sponsoring a $500 scholarship to a senior student in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing program at UWM's Peck School of the Arts.

Yevgeniya Kaganovich, head of the department and professor at UWM since 2002, introduced the faculty, classes, student organization and special events that are part of the offerings in the program. She then shared slides of student work and recent events at the school. The last ten minutes were devoted to Kaganovich's current installation work "Grow" which has been displayed at the Lynden Sculpture Garden and is currently in Milwaukee's City Hall where three public workshops are scheduled. The next and final one is on August 25th. She uses plastic bags to form a material which she then sews and crochets into plantlike formations that spread across a room. She described her studio as "looking like a garbage truck exploded in it." Members were invited to attend any of the student organization's events including sales in the fall at the Villa Terrace and also on the campus. The recipient which was to be chosen soon by UWM's faculty is scheduled to meet LBS members at an upcoming program.
