April 2016 "Helm Chain Maille Hands on"
At the February hands-on meeting we returned to the popular chain maille technique. This time members learned the Helm or Parallel Weave which uses two sizes of jump rings. Like the Byzantine Weave we learned in August 2015, this is a relatively simple weave which can be quickly learned by beginners. For general information about chain maille, you can go to Fusion Beads, one of our contributors, by clicking here.
Member Barb Schoenherr planned and led the project. Members volunteered as table captains and attended training sessions prior to the meeting. (Photos here.) The meeting on April 18 attracted a full room of members and guests. Everyone was given a choice of colors: purple, black, gold, and copper.
By the end of the evening, many members had either finished their bracelets or were almost done.
A long line of members formed to snap up the leftovers kits which were offered at a great price.
