Lariats were the 'table topic' at November's meeting. Members shared some of their gorgeous pieces.
Members also got a chance to preview examples of Retreat 2016 classes and hear about the event from new special events chair Maureen Bartz.
The table topic theme sequed smoothly into the evening's program. It was almost standing-room-only for the presentation on focal beads by member and glass bead artist, Tammy Rae Wolter. After sharing some personal beading history, she began her presentation by explaining how her borosilicate glass beads are made using a YouTube video showing her process. She went on to share ideas on how to get those one-of-a-kind glass beads out of storage and on display immediately including using a changeable bead finding. Examples here. Several simple display ideas were shown. Tammy called three members to the front to share how they incorporated one of Tammy's beads into a focal piece. Traci Otte showed how she used a bead on a key. Cindy Collins explained how she used two beads in a lariat. Maggie Roschyz showed a piece she designed for Tammy to showcase her work at a show. Maggie was also wearing a piece with Tammy's bead as the center point. Each person talked about how they chose the colors used in the piece. Maggie also talked about where she finds inspiration. Tammy closed her presentation with a quick talk about pricing jewelry for sale. Members left the meeting inspired.
