Betcey Ventrella of Beyond Beadery fame joined the LBS to share her bead-life story. Even as a youngster she had visions of her future as she fantasized about selling beads out of her VW Van while touring the country. In 1987, at the age of 25, with a budget of $5,000, she opened her first bead store in Woodstock, New York. There was no business model or plan. In 1992 she opened her second store Silverhawke. After ten years there, she relocated to Rollinsville, Colorado, a tiny rural, mountain community of 250 people. Her business is now done completely through online orders and five to seven shows a year. Betcey shared some of the beading history she experienced firsthand giving recognition to early innovators in the field. The evening ended up with a shopping opportunity that was too good to pass up.
